Student Insurance

The district has contracted with First Agency, Inc. of Kalamazoo again this year for student insurance.

The cost of the insurance has increased from last year. The insurance is optional and extended as a courtesy to those students who may not have health insurance or whose parents want additional coverage at a nominal price.

Students participating in athletics are no longer required to purchase additional medical coverage through the school district. They have the option of purchasing the additional At School Protection or 24-hour protection. Otherwise, claims for athletic injuries must be submitted to the student’s personal medical insurance carrier for payment. A student is not required to carry health insurance to participate.

If parents wish to purchase insurance coverage for their athletes, the purchase must occur before try-outs for the sport desired. The Athletic Office will be responsible for the collection of these premiums.

Parents will not receive any confirmation of coverage other than their canceled check.

Students can sign up for the insurance at any time during the school year but the premium remains the same--there is no pro-ration.

An Insurance Brochure will be enclosed in the first day packet, which every Handy student receives. If you do not have insurance of any kind or would like to purchase additional insurance for your child please read this brochure very carefully for the various options and cost.
